Fr. Phil

As promised, here is a selection of photos from the ordination last Saturday (I will post more on facebook eventually). As I mentioned in a previous post, it was a wonderful service and celebration, with friends and family from near and far. We were particularly blessed to have our priest from North Carolina present - he even preached the homily - it was a gift.

Most of you probably know, but some may wonder why is Phil a priest - isn't he pursuing his doctorate in theology? Well, yes, he is. For some reason, God has called our family to both the ministry and the academy...at the same time. They may seem like separate vocations, but for us, they are not. We believe that the Church is in need of pastor-theologians, seminary educators, and teachers, and the academy (in our case, focused on the world of theology) is in need of ministers of the gospel and scholars who search for truth. How these two things will blend for our family in the future, I cannot tell you. Only God knows. What does it look like for us now, you may ask? Well, Phil is still a full time graduate student and T.A. at Marquette. Come fall, the fellowship of the Holy Cross will continue to meet in our home for weekly prayer, fellowship, and Bible study. Phil will continue helping to run a mission to a nearby prison, and he will serve as a priest in whatever capacities needed at our church. We are thankful for where God has led us and where He continues to lead us each day as we try to faithfully serve Him. Your continued prayers are always welcome and appreciated!
