For four years now, we have been referring to the shoes in the first photo as Phil's "pope" shoes - in reference to the humble brown shoes that dear John Paul II wore. Well, Phil decided that it is time to retire his "pope" shoes in light of their heavy wear and tear. So, last night, we made a Target run and purchased the shoes in the second photo to replace the old brown ones. Initially, he was quite sad about having to say goodbye to his well worn "pope" shoes, but I decided that we can still call his new shoes the "pope" shoes (Benedict style) - in reference to Pope Benedict's stylish, designer shoes...though, Phil's are not red (nor are they true "designer" shoes...after all, we don't live in the Vatican)...alas. I would also like to point out that while still being "pope" shoes, Phil's new shoes are also ecumenical - please see the third photo - the English Lion. These are truly amazing shoes - Catholic and Anglican at the same time!
